The city has designated six local historic districts, from College Park to South Palm Park, and many of its houses were built long before home dryers were common.

So the dryer was added later, wherever it fit: a back porch, a kitchen corner, a closet. The vent followed through a floor, a wall or a window frame. Over the years these runs get patched with tape, stretched with extra flex duct, or crushed behind the machine, and each of those traps lint.

What we do on the visit

We measure the airflow at the outlet with the dryer running, clean the full reachable dryer duct and the dryer port, then measure again. If the flexible duct behind your dryer is plastic, crushed or too long, we can replace it with a listed transition duct on the spot, an extra shown with our prices.

If the run itself needs rerouting, that is a job for a contractor, and our written report gives them what they need to quote it.

More than half the homes here are rented. Tenants usually notice a clogged vent first, as towels that need two cycles or a hot, steamy laundry corner. Landlords get a written report with before and after readings, which is a clean record that the vent was looked after.

Why it is worth doing

A clogged vent wastes time and power on every load, and it is a fire risk: failure to clean is the leading factor in home dryer fires, according to the National Fire Protection Association. A clean, sound vent fixes both.
